Day 5 - Tasmanian Devil

The mouthing and hyperactivity are going too far.

Tera chowing down on a cow ear.
This cow ear is your arm...

Even though my sleep was not as optimal as yesterday, energy is up and the emotional exhaustion seems to have at least receded for now.
It already started messy, literally. Around midnight, I heard Tera making some weird noises. When I decided to take her out just in case, I heard a sound I knew well from the cat we had decades ago... when I looked, my suspicions were confirmed– Tera vomited. Yes, it was not what I wanted to see at this hour, but I stayed neutral, removed the blanket and took Tera outside, in case more was to follow. It was the last of it, so after a wee, back in we went. Now I had to clean the towel a bit. After this, my sleep was not as deep as it should have been. I woke up at 3:00, not due to Tera, but decided to take her out anyway. At 6:30 we went out for the third time. Normally a great time to wake up, but not when raising a puppy.
Sit, stay, break is going better and better. At this pace she will fully grasp it within a few more days.

Land Shark

As it was yesterday, today's theme was mouthing. Lots and lots of mouthing. High energy, no breaks. I am thinking she is really over tired, she has trouble settling in her crate (trying to bite her tail, redecorating, etc.) and staying asleep. Another option is that her teething is really bothering her. I will contact the breeder tomorrow, to get her opinion on this. As a result, she has been in her crate for a large part of the day. She is outside for her toilet breaks, her meals and some training. Outside of the crate, she quickly becomes unmanageable. Since most of the biting takes place outside– since she ramps up there and I just put her in the crate when I get back inside– I haven't tried actually correcting the behaviour. "Thou shalt not bite". I am reluctant to correct her outside, since passersby or neighbors can– and let us be honest, will – respond with emotion, instead out of knowledge. Seeing someone (fairly) physically correcting a small puppy might enrage some people and make them call the authorities or something.
I will see what that does, tomorrow. If needed, I will take her to a garden centre, and buy a cheap flat collar for her.
This whole situation pretty much prevented me from taking photos of her today, so that is a bummer.

Obedience

I did manage to get some training in, and even though I did not train as much the last two days, she is doing amazing. Her name is pretty much nailed, and 'sit' is getting there as well. Outside I can lure her into a sit, and her name also usually works pretty quickly. I will try to not do it outside anymore, since I feel I am going a bit too fast, and I am taking too high risks.

Socialisation

This took a bit of a backburner today, due to the mouthing and hyper behaviour. We did watch traffic this morning, including kids on fatbikes and scooters. And we watched some birds together.

Did you experience something like this with your pup? How did you manage it?
